From Germany to the Lake: A Home Found in God’s Timing

Some client stories unfold quickly; others take the scenic route. Paula and Laszlo’s journey to homeownership was very much the latter—and it’s one of our favorites, because it’s such a beautiful reminder that patience, prayer, and trust can matter just as much as action.

Paula and Laszlo moved to Dallas from Germany when Laszlo’s company offered him the opportunity to work in the States. Along with the excitement of a big international move, they carried a clear hope: they wanted to own a home and be part of a community that supported Catholic education and faith-filled family life. Through a referral from some past clients (which we’ll never stop saying is the highest compliment), they found their way to us. Proof that friendships—and trust—can travel very far.

Like many families making a major move, they didn’t arrive with everything neatly figured out. They had also just welcomed their third child before coming to the States. We helped them secure a short-term rental so they could land softly, get oriented, and start learning the landscape.

While living in their rental, Paula and Laszlo explored every possible path to homeownership. New construction? Maybe. A custom build? Possibly. A resale home? Also on the table. They wanted to be open-minded and intentional… but also felt a little overwhelmed. And honestly? That’s normal. Buyers today have more options than ever, and that abundance can sometimes feel like pressure instead of freedom.

What they did know was that owning a home was important to them. They knew they wanted to be near church, schools, and a strong sense of community. They didn’t know exactly where or how it would all come together; so we took our time and explored every option together.

Then one evening, Paula had been praying with her prayer group when something interesting happened. A friend who knew about their home search told her something unexpected: she had been praying for Paula and Laszlo and the word “lake” kept coming up in prayer. She told Paula that she didn’t know if it was a street name or a town or something else entirely, but she felt strongly that their future home had something to do with the word "lake." Paula tucked this away, unsure what it meant.

Then, months later, Paula and Laszlo attended an open house. While there, Paula and Laszlo struck up a conversation with another attendee, who happened to be a city councilman of Lakewood Village. He mentioned a home in Lakewood Village that  wasn’t on the market yet, but would be soon. Paula and Laszlo’s interest was piqued, and they immediately knew they had to see the house.

They toured it. They loved it. Before the home ever hit the market, they were able to submit an offer, negotiate a fair price, and close in just three short weeks. Roughly one year after first talking to us about a move to Texas, Paula and Laszlo became homeowners in Lakewood Village. Now, they’re happily settling in and excited to begin remodeling their new home—turning it into a space where their girls can grow, memories can be made, and community can flourish.

The takeaway? Big moves often require patience, prayer, and discernment. You can do all the right things and still feel like you’re waiting. But when you align yourself with God’s will, things have a way of falling into place—in His timing, not ours. Our role as your real estate guides is to walk alongside you through that process, to offer guidance, and to never rush what deserves time.

And sometimes, the right home is worth the wait.
